NIC Headquarters, New Delhi
National Informatics Centre (NIC) under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) is the technology partner of the Government of India. It was established in 1976 with an objective to provide technology-driven solutions to Central and State Governments in various aspects of development. NIC has been instrumental in adopting and providing Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and eGovernance support to Central Government.
Its state-of-art IT infrastructure includes Multi-Gigabit PAN India Network NICNET, National Knowledge Network, National Data Centres, National Cloud, Video Conferencing, Email and Messaging Services,Command and Control Centre, Multi-layered GIS based Platform, Domain Registration and Webcast.
NIC has also developed several digital platforms for the socio-economic development of the country with ‘One-Nation One-Platform’ initiative to empower citizens digitally. Its services have created a perfect interaction of the Government with citizens, Government employees and businesses. With an objective of focused study of new technology, explore and experiment their use in governance, NIC has set-up Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Data Analytics, Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain and Application Security.
With an advanced and robust infrastructure, digital platforms as well as on-ground services, NIC is connecting the citizens with the government through a holistic digital landscape and it ensures tech-enabled services that reach the unreached.
Nagaland
Nagaland situated in the north-eastern India and it is considered to be one of the most remote states in the Country. Implementation of developmental work has been an uphill task due to the difficult terrain of the state and in this context, the presence of NIC in Nagaland acquires more significance. NIC State Centre was established in Nagaland in the year 1989. NIC District Centres are fully operational in all the districts of Nagaland. NIC Nagaland State Centre, located at the New Secretariat Complex, Kohima is the apex NIC body in the state and co-ordinates with the working of all the District Centres and the State Government.
NIC had pioneered in bringing IT culture to Nagaland way back in the early nineties with its nationwide satellite-based computer communication network (NICNET) and now with 10 GBPS high bandwidth OFC connectivity. It provides e-mail services, Internet access, file transfer facility, office automation, development of computer-based Management Information System (MIS), and hosting of the state websites and applications etc. NIC has helped in making the state of Nagaland a part of the Global village.
District Centres
National Informatics Centre (NIC)provides nationwide ICT infrastructure to support e-Governance services and various initiatives of Digital India. In order to design, development and implementation of various eGovernance initiatives and Digital India programme, NIC State Centre in 36 States/ UTs along with 737 District Centers are continually engaged to automate and accelerate eGovernance processes in close interaction with users of the departments.
ICT infrastructure of NIC viz. NICNET, NKN, LAN, Mini Data Centre, Videoconference studios, messaging service, Webcast facilities are the key constituents of NIC services.
In way of theses ICT infrastructure, NIC District Centres are playing diverse role right from executing various projects under e-Governance and Digital India initiatives to day-to-day ICT-driven technical support to consultancy to various departments in the district.
New ICT initiatives at the behest of District Magistrates are also being undertaken for design & development under their guidance and technical support of District Informatics Officer (DIO) and Addl. District Informatics Officer (ADIO).
District Administration with support from NIC is executing and implementing e-governance and Digital India initiatives to the grass root level in achieving transparent, efficient and responsive governance by providing ICT-led developments e.g. NICNET and NKN Connectivity, Video Conferencing, Projects Implementation, Capacity building, eMail and SMSs services, ICT implementation in districts including Software Development, Technical Support to VVIP Events and DeitY Programmes e.g. Digital India, CSCs, DISHA, e-Governance Society etc.
